Setting Up Your Tronc Account (UK)

JustTronc is an external PAYE scheme for the distribution of tips and gratuities. It enables businesses to offload liability and to pay employee tips, without incurring National Insurance Contributions (NICs). 

In short: Register for a JustTip business account, ask your account manager to switch on JustTronc, then invite your staff from My Team. Your tronc subscription is set up during your first tronc run, not before it.

Set up JustTronc

JustTronc is an external PAYE scheme for paying tips and gratuities to your staff. JustTip acts as an independent troncmaster and pays your staff through its own PAYE scheme. Where the tronc is run independently of you as the employer, tips paid this way can be exempt from National Insurance contributions. Income tax is still deducted through PAYE. As the employer, you keep the legal duty to make sure tips are allocated fairly.

  1. Register for a JustTip business account. Follow Business Account Sign-Up.
  2. Speak to your account manager. Once you have registered, your account manager contacts you by phone or email. If you choose to subscribe to JustTronc, they switch it on for your account.
  3. Invite your staff. Go to My Team on the left-hand side of your dashboard. Invite each person with their first name, surname and email address, or invite everyone at once. See Inviting Your Team.
  4. Check your team is ready. Each person needs to create their account and verify their identity before we can pay them. Anyone who has not verified yet stays on the roster and keeps their share, which is paid once they verify. Chase anyone who has not finished, so they are not kept waiting for their tips.
  5. Remove anyone who has left. In My Team, select Manage next to the person, then Remove Service Worker.
  6. Run your first tronc. Your subscription is set up inside your first tronc run. Follow Run Your Tronc (UK). For pricing, see Tronc Billing (UK).
