# Your ID Check Failed: Selfie and Document Tips

**In short:** Most failed ID checks come down to the camera being blocked, poor lighting, or a photo of a document instead of the document itself. Fix the cause below and try again.

**Who this is for:** Staff. UK and Ireland.

### Try the check again

1. **Start the check.** Use the verification link we emailed you, or log in and select **Verify Account** when prompted.
2. **Allow your camera and microphone.** If you are asked, select **Allow**. If the camera will not open, follow [Allow Camera Access for Your ID Check](https://help.justtip.net/en/allow-camera-access-for-your-id-check?hsLang=en) first.
3. **Have your ID ready.** It must be the physical document, in date, and fully visible when you scan it. Screenshots and photocopies are not accepted.
4. **Take a clear selfie.** 
     - Find good light. Natural light works best.
     - Make sure your whole face is visible.
     - Take off hats, sunglasses and anything covering your face.
     - Make sure no one else is in the frame. The check can get confused by more than one face.
     - Hold your phone steady.

Poor lighting, or another person in the frame, is a common reason a check fails.

### If that did not work

- Try a different browser. Chrome is recommended.
- Try a private window: **Incognito** mode in Chrome on Android, or **Private** mode in Safari on iPhone.
