Signing Up to Tronc: Employee Guide

Before you start

Have these ready:

  • Your invite link. Your employer sends this to you.
  • A smartphone with a working camera, for the identity check.
  • A valid photo ID, in date and undamaged.
  • Your UK bank sort code and account number. Your tips are paid into this account.
  • Your National Insurance number.
  • Your home address and postcode.

Step 1: Open your invite link

Open the invite link your employer sent you. The sign up page opens.

Step 2: Create your account

Fill in the Register Account form. Every field marked with * is required.

  1. Your name. Enter your first and last name exactly as they appear on your photo ID. If they don't match, your identity check may fail.
  2. Mobile number. Choose your country code, then enter your mobile number.
  3. Nationality and country of residence. Choose both from the lists.
  4. Password. The form shows the password rules and tells you when your password is strong enough.
  5. Bank details. Enter your sort code and account number with no spaces or dashes.
  6. Home address. Enter your address, town or city, county and postcode.
  7. Tick the box to accept the Terms and Conditions, then tap Register.

Step 3: Start your identity check

JustTip uses Veriff, an identity verification provider, to confirm who you are. Tap Start Verification.

Step 4: Verify your identity on your phone

Veriff asks you to continue on your smartphone. You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Scan the QR code on screen with your phone's camera.
  • Get a link by text. Choose United Kingdom (+44) as your country code, enter your mobile number and tap Next.

Then, on your phone:

  1. Scan your photo ID when asked.
  2. Take a selfie.

When Veriff has confirmed your identity, you move on to the next step.

No smartphone? Tap Continue with your current device at the bottom of the Veriff screen.

Step 5: Add your tronc details

Your business runs a tronc scheme, so JustTip needs a few extra details to share securely with HMRC for you.

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Choose your gender.
  3. Enter your National Insurance number.
  4. Tap Register.

The next screen shows Tronc Verification Status: In Progress. This means your details have been sent for verification. We will email you to confirm they have been sent, then again once you are verified. You can also check your status at any time from your dashboard.

Tap Proceed.

Step 6: Accept your business's tipping policy

Your employer's tipping policy explains how tips are collected and shared at your workplace.

  1. Read the policy. Tap Download Policy if you'd like a copy.
  2. Tick I have read my business' tipping policy.
  3. Tap Acknowledge & Continue.

Step 7: You're all set

Your dashboard opens. It shows your total tips and your recent payouts. For more on what it shows, see How to View Your Tips and Payout Reporting.
